Bed Pads
Bed Pads and mattress tops are generally made of a cotton and/or cotton/polyester blend and tuck, wrap or strap into your mattress. The key functionality of bed pads is that they are washable and protect the underlying mattress. Bed pads have had an evolution in recent years and now come in many models including basic, incontinence bed pads, heated bed pads, disposable bed pads, sheepskin bed pads and cooling bed pads. Despite all the innovation, people that suffer from incontinence or bed wetting for any other reason, most often are seeking a basic washable bed pad. For hygiene and practical reasons, it is best to have a basic reusable, washable bed pad.
Although disposable bed pads are convenient, they are not recommended for long term use. At approximately $2-$3 per pad and potentially multiple changes a day, this can add up significantly over a year.
The benefits of washable bed pads are:
- prevent urine from seeping through to the mattress
- avoid mattress stains
- reasonably priced
- discreet
- easy to use
- washable with no muss of fuss
- long lasting
- more comfortable than disposable bed pads
- quiet - don't have "plastic crinkle"
For heavier urinary incontinence we recommend the combination of adult diapers in combination with a bed pad.
