A child's immune system, also known as a defense system, is a group of cells and body fluids that protect the body from harmful substances. The immune system recognizes and eliminates germs and other potentially harmful microorganisms in the body.
Theoretically, with a strong enough immune system, children can fight off infections such as the common cold or influenza. A number of factors such as chronic stressors and illnesses can weaken their immune systems and can increase chances of them becoming ill.
