Bed Pad with Polyester Soaker
Polyester is a hydrophobic material. As a result, polyester materials do not absorb perspiration or other liquids, leaving the wearer damp and clammy. Polyester fibers have a low wicking capability. Polyester is more durable than cotton and has a better ability to stretch. The fiber strength can range from 2.5 to 9.5 grams per denier.
Polyester (polyethylene terephthalate) is made by combining petroleum, air, and water in a chemical process. Purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monotheluene glycol make up this synthetic fiber (MEG).
Polyester is a thermoplastic material, which means it can be melted and reshaped. Chemists melt polyester pellets and press them through little holes to make polyester (spinnerets). The continuous filaments of what we know as polyester fibers harden on the spinnerets' exit side. The fibers' form and diameter are determined by the size and shape of the hole. There are no blank gaps inside the fibers because they are solid polymer.
These continuous filaments, known as "tow," can be cut to any length (there is no length distribution because all fibers are created to be exactly homogeneous) to produce staple fibers for use in textiles and nonwovens, or left as a continuous monofilament, similar to fishing line.
Keep in mind that you'll see cotton and polyester combined together to create fabrics with qualities that neither fiber can attain on its own. Each has its own set of benefits and drawbacks when seen in isolation. The more information you have, the better decisions you may make when choosing a fiber to fit your requirements.
